The department has two ambulances that are professionally staffed by volunteers. We have twenty-two Emergency Medical Technicians and two Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians.
In 2022, we were able to upgrade our ambulance service to the advanced level because of the two Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians. They can provide more medications, IV’s, and more advanced airways.
The Village of Arcade has hired a paid Emergency Medical Technician that is expected to start early September. The purpose is to offset the hours where our volunteers have the most challenges with responding to calls.
Remember we are just like you – trying to navigate jobs, families, and all the things life throws at us.
In 2022, we received some significant donations that allowed us to purchase a RAD-57 meter. This can be used for carbon monoxide exposures.
In 2022, we also had many emergency personnel become Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) certified. This allows us to help improve the work of breathing and oxygenation for patients with different respiratory complaints.
We run a night crew rotation with designated crews in attempt to best serve you in your time of need!
Our goal is to provide more than minimum care and to go above and beyond to ensure that a diligent effort is provided to give our patients the best possible care.
Before we are even a thought make sure YOU are taking care of YOU.
Some helpful reminders:
- Go to routine medical appointments.
- Exercise, eat healthily, drink plenty of fluid, and rest.
- Don’t wait until you need to go to the hospital before you do something about it.
If you are experiencing an emergency… Don’t hesitate to call 911.
How can you help us help you?
- Create an information card – (name, birthday, primary doctor, diagnoses, allergies, and medications)
- Have any advanced directives (MOLST, DNR, Proxy) on the fridge as we are trained to look there.
Remember sometimes minutes matter!
A misconception that is becoming even more inaccurate – our service reduces wait times in the Emergency Room. We understand that wait times can be less than ideal but if that’s the sole purpose for your call please consider how this takes away from others and our member’s precious time.
Take the initiative in YOUR medical care. Be preventative rather than reactive. If you need us don’t hesitate to call.
